Stages in the Lifespan

Q From the "Lifespan" module, read two important theories of development: 1. Erikson's theory of socioemotional development (8 stages from birth to later stages of life) 2. Piaget's cognitive theory of development (4 stages from birth to 12 yrs. - where Piaget believes you can reach your optimal cognitive potential, and remain for the rest of life) For this discussion, give two examples (one for Erikson and one for Piaget) of people you know (can also be yourself) who are going through a particular stage. Give the description of the stage, and why or why not they are a good example. As always, be sure to reply to at least two other's for full credit. *First submission due Week 9 - Friday reply to two other students by Sunday

After reading about Eriksons theory on development the individual I believe falls under one of his stages would be my infant son. He is 15 months old so he would be in the autonomy vs. shame/doubt stage (1-3 years of age). This is the stage where kids tend to be more independent, understand their emotions, and learn what they may or may not like. A specific example of this stage that I see in my son is when he wants to walk. He has a strong dislike for being held to long or in a stroller/highchair for a certain amount of time.
